Princess Peasblossom was very annoyed. She wanted to go outside and play with her friend, Diana the dragon. But her dad, the King, had said “No!”

"My daughter can't play with dragons!" he had said. “Dragons carry princesses off to their lairs, and then I will have to pay a prince half my kingdom to get you back! No, you stay inside where it’s safe until the dragon goes away.”
So Princess Peasblossom decided to look in her magic wardrobe for a disguise to help her sneak out of the castle, so she could go play with Diana.
The first thing she saw in her magic wardrobe was a headband with mouse ears on. “Oh yes,” she said to herself. “That will work perfectly!”
She put the headband on and turned into a mouse! As a mouse, she scampered out of her rooms and into the hallway towards the main entrance of the castle. But in the hallway was a maid, sweeping the floor, and the maid saw her.
“Eeeeeeeep! A mouse!” shrieked the maid, who started trying to hit the mouse Princess Peasblossom with her broom. “Eeeeeeeeep, no mice allowed in the castle!”
Princess Peasblossom was so scared that she ran all the way back to her room and quickly took off the headband, turning human again. So much for that idea. She went to have another look in her magic wardrobe to see what she could try next.
These are the things in her magic wardrobe:

Next, Princess Peasblossom decided to try the cape. She put it on and it turned her into a vampire!
"Aha!" she said, "Now I can fly out of the castle!"
She concentrated and turned herself into a vampire bat, then she flew out of her room and down the hall, towards the gate.
She started to fly out of the castle, but the gate guards saw the vampire!
“Oh no!” said one guard. “A vampire!”
“We can’t let the vampire get the princess!” said the other guard.
Both guards aimed their crossbows at the vampire.
“Oh bother,” said the vampire Princess Peasblossom, quickly taking off the cloak and falling to the floor.
“Oh, Princess,” said the first guard. “We’ve saved you!”
“Yes,” said the second guard, “but you better go back to your room quickly, just in case that vampire comes back.”
Princess Peasblossom went back to her room feeling very sad. Nothing was working. She looked in the magic wardrobe again. “I will try the ballet shoes,” decided the Princess. "They are soft and very good for sneaking."
But as soon as she put the ballet shoes on, Princess Peasblossom started dancing! The shoes were dancing all by themselves and taking her with them!

They danced into the hall, where the maid put down her broom and clapped at the beautiful dancing.
They danced into the throne room, where the king was sitting. He was very pleased to see the princess was doing something other than sulking about not being allowed to play with dragons. “Oh, very well done Peasblossom, bravo!” he applauded.
They danced past the guards at the gate, who cheered, very glad they had saved their lovely dancing princess from the evil vampire.
As soon as they danced back into her room, Princess Peasblossom took the shoes off fast! She was exhausted! She took the pyjamas out of her magic wardrobe and went straight to sleep.
When she woke up, she decided she just had to get out to play with Diana the dragon somehow. She decided to try EVERYTHING left in the wardrobe.
She put on the swimming costume, then the mask, then the armour. Wearing all three, she made her way out of her room.
The maid in the hall saw a knight and quickly hurried out of his way, and back to the kitchen.

Princess Peasblossom took off the armour and left it next to the other suits of armour lining the hallway. The mask shimmered and camouflaged her, making her very hard to see.
The king in the throne room saw nothing as she walked past, just felt a very slight breeze.
The guards at the gate saw nothing, and Princess Peasblossom thought there was still no way out of the castle, without them opening the gate for her.

But she had the swimming costume! She sneaked into the passageway next to the gate house, out the window and into the moat.
“Did you hear a splash?” asked the guard.
“Nah,” said the other. “Keep looking out for that vampire!”
The magic swimming costume helped her swim through the moat safely, and Princess Peasblossom climbed out the other side.
She took off the camouflage mask.
“There you are!” said Diana, “I’ve been waiting ages. Err, can you teach me how to do that?”
“Do what?” asked Princess Peasblossom, giving her friend a hug.
“Swim,” replied Diana. “I had to get a witch called Winnie to make a bridge for me earlier so I could visit you. If I could swim, I wouldn’t have to worry about flying over water.”
"Of course! promised Princess Peasblossom.
So Peasblossom taught Diana to swim in the moat, and even fetched her a pair of special swimming goggles just for dragons out of the magic wardrobe.
And then the two friends played happily together for the rest of the day.
